Chronic Pain often disrupts sleep, which can in turn intensify our experience of pain itself and negatively affect our daytime outlook and mood. Yoga Nidra, or Yogic Sleep, is a technique that supports relaxation and restoration, even in the absence of sleep. I will begin by discussing the effect of sleep on pain and mood, and then move into classic yoga nidra techniques of: body scan, rotation of consciousness, alternation of sensations, and more. Most importantly, we will spend time connecting somatically with an area of pain or discomfort with an attitude of curiosity. We know that exploration of uncomfortable sensation through a different and more curious lens, versus a mindset of anxiety or intent to eradicate the pain, can positively shift our experience of sensation itself. Your Yoga Nidra experience will be accompanied by a gentle tongue drum.
